“What if I took down this building to discover what’s behind it? What if I removed that block? And another layer?” – we can imagine Letícia Lampert asking herself this, shovel or utility knife in hand, as she digs through her own photographs. With the impetus of someone dismantling a toy to unravel its mechanism, she uses what remains as her mortar. In a balance between fine precision and chance, she subtracts from the city to then add. To join differently. Thus, we traverse pages and places as concrete as they are nonexistent, moments dissected from the raw material into which she transforms her images. A poetry of form, loose collage, a silent book: they are gray blocks, pastel tones, textures, an architecture that squeezes and misplaces the much-desired blue horizon. If the view blocks it, Letícia uncovers it; she opens paths and invites us to explore them, to walk as one who still dreams and therefore refounds other cities.

Há uma cidade por trás, 2026

Enquanto a publicidade grita, a arquitetura sussurra.

What does the city tell us when the words disappear? How is photography used to create desire, identification, familiarity? Are we really aware of how many messages we get all the time? By appropriating the billboards I find in the city, and erasing the text that makes explicit the intention, I seek to invite the viewer to reflect on the stimuli to which we are exposed every day. Something surreal seems to emerge when the ads are silenced. Who are those people? Why do they look at us this way? Developed during a period of art residency in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in early 2018, the work blends advertisement of politicians in campaigning with models and professionals selling a variety of products and services. The impossibility of distinguishing accurately when it comes to one situation or another emphasizes how susceptible we are to being seduced by images.

“Known by Sight” examines an increasingly frequent situation in the contemporary urban context: apartment buildings with opposite windows way too close. Views that don’t show the city or the landscape, but someone else’s life nearby. Neighbors who don’t formally know each other but can make long descriptions about each other’s daily habits.
This project was developed through the contact with dwellers from more than 50 apartments, chosen by chance, in narrow streets from Porto Alegre – Brazil. The idea was to counterpoint views and points of view, always visiting apartments on both sides os the street. The dwellers testimonies were collected in informal chats and complement the images, revealing these unique relationships established in the city.
